Associate Vice Chancellor and Dean of Students

Alma Sifuentes assumed the role of Associate Vice Chancellor and Dean of Students effective January 1, 2007. As the principal of the Campus Life Unit, Alma provides leadership to a team of four Executive Directors, over forty directors and managers and a total team of over two hundred professional staff, and budget oversight for approximately 22 million dollars.

Alma received her BA in economics from UC Santa Cruz in 1986. In 1985 and 1987, she held the Alfred P. Sloan Fellowship in Public Policy Studies from Princeton University and Harvard University, respectively. Alma also earned an MA in Public Policy Studies from Duke University in 1989.

Alma has over 20 years experience in Student Affairs, specifically in the area of academic advising, residential life, student development, student activities, housing, dining, child care and campus life. She is bi-lingual in English/Spanish, and demonstrates a strong commitment to diversity and cultural issues.

Prior to serving as Associate Vice Chancellor/Dean of Students, Alma served the UC Santa Cruz community in the following positions:

• Assistant Vice Chancellor / Dean of Students for six months
• Special Assistant to Associate Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs for one year
• Executive Director for Residential, Dining and Family Services for five years
• College Administrative Officer at Stevenson College for seven years.

Alma is married and the mother of two children.
