Student Media

Student Media is the umbrella organization to over 40 print, radio and television student organizations. Hundreds of students participate in Student Media every year. Students are provided facilities, state-of-the-art equipment and funding in order to offer the campus community various formats for receiving news and special interest information.

Student Media provides students a myriad of training and professional development opportunities via internships, advising, professional seminars and hands-on-training. Student Media is also affiliated with a number of academic programs, and some students participating in student media are also receiving academic credit.

Over 25 print media organizations offer students development in the following areas:

  • Creative Writing
  • Reporting
  • Journalism
  • Poetry
  • Art
  • Photography
  • Design
  • Production
  • Business
  • Management

SCTV, Channel 28, is the campus television station which provides students with programs such as: Banana Slug News, Rainbow TV and Sustainability TV

KZSC 88.1 FM is UCSC’s radio station, broadcasting to the greater Monterey Bay Area. This educational radio station is a collaborative venture between students, faculty, staff and community volunteers. Programming includes: news, sports, talk and music. Students working at the radio station receive hands-on professional experience.
